Friendship in College

Freshman year is a flurry of experiences and emotions. Going into the second half of second semester, that is the most logical conclusion I can draw. Not all of the experiences are great, but that doesn't mean that they won't lead to great things. The only thing you have to do is get through the good and the bad to come out on the other side. Not that it is impossible, but it could be very difficult to do this alone. That's where your friends come in.

On May 13, 2013, without realizing it, Julie messaged me on Facebook and that's the day we became best friends. We didn't know it yet, and I may have never believed you if you told me on that day that we would be best friends, but in time it was clear. This year has been one of the longest years of my life. Everything good to ever happen to me, has happened this year, and so have many not so great things. One of the best things to ever happen to me was meeting Julie. I have never had a friend who I have had so much in common with, or who has made me want to be such a better person. I have also never had a friend who has given me such unwavering support.

Whether I'm crying on the floor of her bedroom, or running down the street at 2 am to get back to our dorm after 14 hours at Disneyland, I know Julie is my best friend. She inspires me everyday to make choices that have a positive impact on myself and on those around me. She listens to my stories and encourages my grandest dreams.

Not only is Julie a good person to have in my life, but she is so fun. Whenever I want to go on an adventure, or do something fun to clear my head, I know Julie will be willing to be by my side. No matter how crazy our ideas are, we find a way to make them happen. She makes me feel like I can do anything and I know that she will always help me find a way to make it happen.

You don't always come across a person with such similar interests, such a positive influence, and someone who is just fun to spend time with, but I have, and I am so incredibly blessed to have her by my side. Julie gives me the strength to get through my toughest times and darkest hours and rises my up to enjoy my brightest days. Without her, I would feel lost many times, and I definitely would not be as happy.

College is a place to get an education and become prepared for a career, but in coming to college, I have gotten so much more, so soon. I have gained a lifelong friendship.

Julie, you're my best friend. I can't thank you enough for how incredible of a friend you have been to me these past few months. I can't wait for how exciting our lives are going to be, and I am so looking forward to growing with you by my side. You teach me so much. You're my sister, my best friend, my wanderlust partner, and you're an incredible blessing for me to have. Love you forever.

xoxo
